St. Paul woman pleads guilty to smuggling elephant parts

ST. PAUL, Minn. - A St. Paul woman has pleaded guilty to smuggling parts of endangered elephants into the country.
Seng Her pleaded entered her plea in federal court Tuesday.
In her plea agreement, the 56-year-old said she knowingly smuggled into the U.S. parts of an Asian elephant, which is on the endangered species list, as well as several dead exotic birds without proper permits.
Her was stopped by customs officials at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport following a flight from Laos in 2007. Prosecutors say the animal parts were concealed on her person.
A sentencing date has not been set. The statutory maximum is 20 years in prison.
